, Freedom House’s newest report.

Based on interviews with media professionals and experts in Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, and Poland, Freedom House examines the playing field for independent newsrooms, and how they address issues of financial viability, and set about promoting trust and accountability.

Amid significant pressures, this report highlights emerging responses that can inform future policy approaches to reviving news media’s role as a core component of a healthy democracy.

The event will feature researchers presenting key findings from the report, followed by a panel discussion on what actions are needed to strengthen media’s positive contributions to democracy in the region.

Speakers include:

Márton Kárpáti, CEO, Telex

Cecilia Anesi, investigative reporter and co-founder of the Investigative Reporting Project Italy (IRPI)

Jessica White, Senior Research Analyst for Media & Democracy, Freedom House

Reviving News Media in an Embattled Europe will be released online at freedomhouse.org on June 21.
