Happy Pride Month, John.
I am gearing up to march with the LGBTQ+ community at Chicago Pride in just a few weeks. While I am excited to show my support and join the celebration, I want to start this Pride Month off by directing your attention to an LGBTQ+ organization in Chicago that needs our support.
I recently met with members of Brave Space Alliance to learn more about their important work.
BSA provides a lifeline for transgender, gender non-conforming, and queer people living in parts of Chicago where very few resources exist for the LGBTQ+ community. BSA’s doors are open to all, but they primarily connect vulnerable Black and Brown queer and trans communities with health and wellness supplies, housing support, a community food pantry, and other resources.
The LGBTQ+ community needs our vocal and steadfast support — during Pride Month and all year long. LGBTQ+ people continue to face violence and discrimination in Illinois and across the country. Meanwhile, the far-right is stoking a culture war that is putting LGBTQ+ people at risk.
My best,
Dick Durbin
