Dear John,
It’s Pride month, but I’m feeling scared for our trans siblings across the country.
Pride is a joyful celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and a strong display of the power of the queer rights movement in the U.S. – but we’re also in a moment of crisis. Trans people, particularly Black trans people, are facing not just physical violence but also violence through transphobic legislation attempting to strip them of their humanity and take away their ability to care for themselves and their families.
In the past few months, we saw the “Parents Bill of Rights” passed by House Republicans to prevent students from changing their name or pronouns and to police the bathrooms and locker rooms they’re able to use. States are passing transphobic legislation including drag bans, “Don’t Say Gay” bills, and book bans. Florida passed bills to limit access to gender-affirmative care, allow the state to take trans kids away from their parents, and prevent trans people from accessing bathrooms. Texas is on the brink of banning transition-related care for trans kids.
These policies put bigoted values ahead of family and individual care. This is urgent. For many, it’s a matter of life or death. We need to protect trans children so they can thrive and we need to build our power to roll back transphobic laws.
We CAN fight back. States like Minnesota or Washington have passed measures to protect trans people and their bodily autonomy. That’s only possible when enough of us come together to call for a system with more dignity and better support for trans people.
Now, more than ever, it’s crucial for us to support trans families – so we wanted to share some resources that you can use to do so.

These are just a few of the organizations working to protect our trans and queer siblings. In honor of Pride month, we hope you will consider offering your support.
With care,
