Sen. Braun addresses Lake Freeman water levels |
Republican Senator Mike Braun recently spearheaded the effort to proactively address Lake Freeman’s economic revitalization. Due in large part to the 2020 drought, the lake reached “abnormally low” water levels, thereby causing a significant downturn in boating and recreation revenue.
Local residents and businesses rely on increased traffic and patronage.
Senator Braun worked out a viable solution by bringing the Northern Indiana Public Service Company and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission together – his solution of decreasing the water flow out of the lake was successfully approved by all parties.
“We moderated in a way that the lake association was not being unreasonable … clearly, the major stakeholder would have been the folks living on the lake and the lake association, and they were not getting anywhere in terms of something moving to a resolution that looked like it was going to happen. I knew it had the essence of being able to get worked out.” – Indiana Senator Mike Braun |
