Friend -

Today I want to take a minute to honor and talk about Senator Debbie Stabenow. Last month, the Michigan Democratic Party had our first opportunity to properly recognize her legacy (you can watch a clip of her remarks here: [link removed]

I was happy to say a few kind words about her, along with other elected officials.
Debbie was elected to the Ingham County Board of Commissioners at just 24 years old in 1974 and she’s been fighting for Michigan ever since. That year, she was the youngest elected woman on her board of commissioners and the youngest elected woman in the country at the time.

From Ingham County Commissioner, to state representative and state senator, to Congresswoman (in a version of the seat I currently represent), and finally as the first female U.S. Senator from Michigan in 2001, her service has benefited every Michigander, including farmers, small businesses, children, and families all across the country.

Just like many others in Michigan, I was shocked when she announced in January that she was not running for reelection. It takes a lot of courage to leave something you've done your whole life, and — as the Chairwoman of the Agriculture Committee in a Farm Bill year — at the top of your game. I give her an enormous amount of credit.

And as we know, she has in no way taken her hands off the gears in Michigan because she’s committed to keeping this seat blue in 2024. She doesn’t have an ounce of quit in her and that’s something I really admire.

And if we want to continue her legacy of fighting for the middle class and making more things in America, then we are going to need to make sure we run a mission-driven campaign here in Michigan.

I intend to work everyday to try and live up to the legacy that Senator Stabenow is leaving behind, and I would appreciate your support while I do it.

Will you chip in today to my campaign for Senate in Michigan? Please help me continue Senator Stabenow’s legacy of being a champion for the people of Michigan.
