Right now there is a bill in Congress that will create unnecessary gridlock, waste time and money, and ultimately prevent our government from doing its job – which could harm our efforts to protect the environment. 

That bill is the so-called Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (or REINS Act). If signed into law, the REINS Act could prevent federal agencies, like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), from setting major rules and regulations and carrying out laws passed by Congress.

The REINS Act is a direct threat to our government’s ability to act swiftly and decisively in order to protect public health and the environment. Will you raise your voice to protect our communities?

The REINS Act would insert partisan politics into every major rule promulgated by the federal government. That could include policies that regulate air and climate pollution, bans on health-harming chemicals or even emissions standards for vehicles! 

If approved, this bill would require federal agencies to seek approval from both the House and Senate. And if one or both chambers fail to approve a proposed rule, it’ll be tabled until the next congressional session. Meaning we’ll waste precious time to fight back against climate change and harmful pollution!

Federal agencies already have a rigorous vetting process to create major rules and regulations — informed by scientific and technical experts, and refined by public input. Now it’s time for us to defend it. Raise your voice for responsive government and tell your Representative to vote no on the REINS Act.
