Hi John — it’s
Pramila.

This June marks National Immigrant Heritage Month, and I wanted to take a
moment to urge all of us to acknowledge, celebrate, and support the
contributions immigrants have made in our country.

I came to the United States when I was just 16 years old, with nothing in
my pockets. After 17 years on an alphabet soup of visas to become a U.S.
citizen, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to live the American
Dream. But this dream is out of reach for too many immigrants today.

As the first South Asian woman elected to the House of Representatives and
one of only two dozen naturalized citizens in Congress, I know how
important it is to have true representation in our government.

And as the first immigrant in recorded history to serve as Ranking Member
of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, I am honored to be in
a position to move the needle and recenter our broken immigration system
around dignity, humanity, and justice.

While Republican leadership shows no intention of engaging in good-faith
negotiations to reform our immigration laws, I will not rest until we see
a government that welcomes and supports us all. Long before I ran for
Congress, I was organizing on the grassroots level in the immigrants’
rights movement. I’ll never give up on this fight.

And there’s so much more work to be done outside of Congress. As a
progressive movement rooted in love, compassion, and unity, we all have a
moral obligation to ensure our communities can welcome and celebrate
everyone who is looking to build a better life for themselves and their
families.

Today, and every day moving forward, we must reaffirm our commitment to
fighting for immigrants’ rights, rebuilding our broken immigration
systems, and amplifying our call for compassion and unity.

our government, please chip in today to help strengthen our collective
momentum and continue breaking down the pillars of injustice in our
democracy.

Thank you for your support and faith in this movement,
John.

Together,
