The clean energy measures our Members are fighting for are working — the proof is in the numbers.
John, we’re hitting your inbox this Monday with really promising news:
The intensity of methane emissions from the oil and gas industry’s 100 top emitters fell 28 percent between 2019 and 2021 — and greenhouse gas emissions intensity dropped by 30 percent.
This is the sort of progress we need to make, so we’re pleased to see it. While there’s still much further to go, fortunately that’s where the Inflation Reduction Act’s Methane Emissions Reduction Program comes in.
This provision directed $1.55 billion to the EPA’s emission-reduction efforts, which will work in tandem with the agency’s proposed methane emissions standards to limit how much producers can emit.
Because of these standards, we’re on track to make huge progress in our carbon reduction goals — but since Big Oil and Gas are the prime targets of these regulations, Kevin McCarthy and his fossil fools in Congress are going to insane lengths to stop us from getting them signed into law.
During negotiations on the debt ceiling, McCarthy led his anti-climate Republican colleagues in targeting the Methane Emissions Reduction Program in particular.
And even though the debt ceiling crisis has been averted, Republicans have still flaunted their hand for our entire country to see — and chiseling away at our climate gains to appease their big money oil and gas financiers is at the top of their agenda.
John, we know that curbing our methane emissions is central to achieving our nation’s clean energy goals, and the latest emissions report shows we’re headed in the right direction.
The proof is in the numbers, folks. The clean energy measures our Members are fighting for are working — and if we’re going to reach our ambitious climate goals by 2030, we need to know you’ve got our backs so we can keep moving the needle forward.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
