John,
This November, every single seat in the Virginia State Legislature is up for election — making Virginia one of the most hotly-contested battlegrounds of the year. And the primary election is just two weeks away!
We’re excited to announce that the Working Families Party is expanding our organizing in Virginia this year, with endorsements in 12 races so far — including Laschrecse Aird who is running to defeat the last anti-abortion Democrat in the state senate and Sally Hudson who is standing up to Dominion Energy.
With newly-drawn districts and a slew of retirements leaving so many races up in the air, we have a huge opportunity to elect champions in Virginia who will reform our criminal justice system, defend abortion access, and stand up to abusive utility monopolies.
But because Virginia has no campaign donation limits on state races, billion-dollar corporations like Dominion Energy are able to spend unlimited sums of money to defeat our movement. Early voting in the primary election is already underway. Can we count on you to pitch in now to help elect our champions in the primary, and then lay the groundwork to flip newly-swing seats in the state legislature this November?

With just two weeks until the primary, we wanted to take a minute and tell you about a few of the candidates we are excited to throw our support behind.
In Virginia Senate District 13, Lashrecse Aird is taking on Joe Morrissey, the last anti-abortion Democrat in the Virginia State Legislature. Last year, Morrissey co-sponsored a bill that would ban abortion in Virginia, one of the last states in the south without an abortion ban.
WFP champion Jennifer Carroll Foy is running to bring clean water, safe communities, and affordable health care to Senate District 33. With an opponent whose top donor is Dominion, the energy company abusing its monopoly and taking advantage of Virginia residents, Jennifer needs our support to beat the corporate interests working against her.
Sally Hudson is a proven leader on reproductive justice and clean energy running to secure a fairer, brighter future for Senate District 11. Her opponent is part of Virginia’s entrenched “good ol’ boy” network and has taken over $100,000 from Dominion over the course of his career.
Buta Biberaj is up for re-election as Commonwealth Attorney for Loudoun County. A trailblazer in criminal justice reform, Buta has worked to end the school-to-prison pipeline, reform the unjust bail system, seek alternatives to incarceration for non-violent offenses, and invest in mental health treatment — all while reducing crime rates in the county.
These amazing candidates and more are ready to build a Virginia that works for the many, not the few — and so are we. That’s why we’re expanding our organizing in Virginia during the primary and through the general election in order to reform our justice system, flip the House of Delegates, and ensure abortion access is protected in the commonwealth.
Pitch in $10 now to help grow our movement in Virginia and win the change that our communities need.
