Hank's heart goes out to gender conflicted children, and to their parents who have had the unenviable task of making medical decisions impacting their child’s very real gender identity crisis.
While these parents are forced to make what must be gut wrenching decisions about what is in the best interests of their child, Republican politicians — acting like elementary school bullies — have turned these very sensitive, personal, and private family dilemmas into a national political issue and are passing laws stripping away the rights of parents to make medical decisions that are in the best interests of their child's health. How dispicable!
All across the country, Republican governors and legislatures are singling out real people, often at their most vulnerable, and trying to drag their personal issues into the public light for ridicule and persecution. The GOP has turned the power of the state on a small number of people. The families at issue are trying hard to do what is best for their children. Along come Kemp and DeSantis and Abbott to insert themselves into their constituents’ private lives, threatening to break families apart. So much for the party of “limited government.”
The same people who shout “parental rights” at the top of their lungs when complaining about a school curriculum are trying to take away the rights of parents who explore gender-affirming care for their children. It’s total hypocrisy, and we’re going to continue to call them out on it.
There’s only one reason the GOP is pushing all these anti-transgender laws — they want to create the “other” and rally their political base against them.
So please, John — will you pitch in to our efforts to bring light to these hypocritical Republicans and push back against their hurtful agenda?
