John,
U.S. election officials and poll workers are serving on the frontlines of our democracy at a historic time when democracy — not just in our country but globally — has been under assault. In recent years, our election officials have stood courageously in defense of our elections which have come under unprecedented attack. But they need help.
That’s why Issue One launched Faces of Democracy, a bipartisan campaign of election officials and poll workers demanding federal lawmakers provide the support they need to strengthen our system of self governance.
In fact, two dozen Faces of Democracy members are coming to DC this week to urge our nation’s leaders and policymakers to act now to fund U.S. elections and protect the people running them — ahead of 2024.
It’s time for Congress to meet the moment and invest in our nation’s critical election infrastructure. And you know what? The public agrees! Issue One recently commissioned two polls that highlighted two crucial points:
- 7 in 10 Americans (74% of Democrats and 66% of Republicans) believe the federal government should be just as, or more, responsible for election funding as local and state authorities.
- 77% of Americans — across party lines — support extending protections of sensitive personal information to election officials.
This shouldn’t be surprising. It’s just common sense. There is strong, bipartisan support for funding our elections and keeping those who run them safe.
Despite these promising results, there’s work to do. On top of our work this week with members of our Faces of Democracy campaign, we will continue to advocate for and stand with election officials and poll workers across the country who work hard to keep our elections safe, secure, and accessible.
Onward,
Dokhi Fassihian Deputy Chief of Strategy and Program
