Friend, last week, a federal judge held a hearing in a case in which Texas and eight other Republican-led states are looking to completely shut down DACA and expose nearly 600,000 DACA recipients to the threat of deportation.

The judge’s ruling on the legality of DACA will come any day now — but we aren’t waiting for his decision to act with urgency, and neither should Congress.

Please, our representatives need to hear us loud and clear: We cannot wait for another court decision to determine the futures of immigrant youth in this country. We need the permanency and stability of a pathway to citizenship NOW >>> 

The threat to DACA is real. The same judge presiding over this case ruled against DACA in 2021, barring first-time applicants from the program. The impact was devastating — hundreds of thousands of young immigrants were denied the ability to go to college, pursue careers, and build their lives in the country they know as home.

Sadly, DACA’s precarious state is not “breaking news.” For years, we’ve been sounding the alarm and advocating for a permanent solution. In fact, it’s been 20 years since NILC helped draft the original DREAM Act, and in just days, 11 years will have passed since DACA was first announced. Year after year, and in court case after court case, we have fought on behalf of immigrant youth — all the while Congress has failed to act.
