HELP US GET OUR NEW YORK STATE LEGISLATION PASSED THIS WEEK!

Fellow New Yorkers:

The New York State legislative session ends on June 8, and we have a number of bills that are still on the fence with the State Assembly, including:


PFAS in Menstrual Products
The PFAS in Menstrual Products bill (S.3529A ([link removed]) /A.5990A ([link removed]) ) passed the Senate, so now we are trying to get it through the Assembly. Given all the work we’ve done to get PFAS ([link removed]) out of everyday stuff, you may know that this is a chemical you do not want in your menstrual products. This bill, which we need to get on the Assembly Rules Committee Agenda, will limit the use of PFAS and other harmful chemicals in these products.

Good Cause Eviction
The Good Cause Eviction bill (S.305 ([link removed]) /A.4454 ([link removed]) ) will prohibit the eviction of residential tenants or the non-renewal of residential leases without good cause, such as failure to pay rent. The bill will help curb gentrification and give renters a fighting chance in this city.

NY HEAT Act
The NY HEAT Act (S.2016A ([link removed]) /A.4592A ([link removed]) ) will lower energy bills, saving low- and middle-income families up to $75 per month. It will also get rid of the 100-foot rule that lets utility companies force you to pay for unnecessary gas hookups, for which they collect around $200 million from ratepayers each year.


TAKE ACTION TODAY
Please take a moment to call Speaker of the New York State Assembly Carl Heastie (pronounced hasty) at 518-455-3791 and ask him to put the PFAS in Menstrual Products bill on the Assembly Rules Committee agenda and bring Good Cause Eviction and the NY HEAT Act out of committee for a vote on the Assembly floor.

Hello, Speaker Heastie. I am (state your name) and I am with WE ACT for Environmental Justice.

I’m calling today to ask you to put the PFAS in Menstrual Products bill on the Rules Committee and get both Good Cause Eviction and the NY HEAT Act out of committee for a vote. Working-class New Yorkers, especially those of us living in environmental justice communities, deserve the protections provided by these bills.
