Dear Friends,
We have an urgent request. House Bill 4474 threatens your right to freedom of speech. It amends Michigan's existing Ethnic Intimidation law and expands it to criminalize "hate speech." It was recently introduced alongside HB 4475, which would make hate speech a felony. The language proposed in these bills clearly violates the First Amendment and our religious liberty. These bills are currently scheduled to be heard by the House Criminal Justice Committee on Tuesday, the 6th of June. They could come to the House floor as early as this week.
