Dear John,
Everyone should be able to live in peace and safety. But today, tensions continue to escalate on the Korean Peninsula, resulting in division, sanctions, and strife. The U.S. must take concrete steps toward peace—starting with negotiating a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War. The U.S.’s longest “forever war” never ended but was merely suspended by an armistice agreement, and the human cost of the war rises with each decade that passes. After more than 70 years of conflict, it’s more important than ever to call for peace.
Tell Congress: Pass the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act!
The Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act calls for a formal end to the Korean War and a review of the current ban on travel to North Korea. This week, people across the U.S. are meeting with members of Congress to build support for this important legislation. The continued state of war on the Korean Peninsula has fostered dangerous conditions and military build-up that threatens everyone’s safety. Negotiating a peace agreement would reduce tensions and build confidence, providing the foundation to more effectively cooperate on issues such as nuclear disarmament, family reunification, and human rights.
With growing tensions on the Korean Peninsula, it’s clear that we need a transformative, peace-first approach. Formally ending the decades-long war would set the stage for a reimagined relationship built on mutual thriving, engagement, and diplomacy.
Take action today by calling for peace on the Korean Peninsula!
In peace,
