Health Justice Highlights

Hi John

This month we were pleased to have our own Policy and Campaigns Officer, Sean Roberts, published in Open Democracy outlining why, on the NHS's 71st birthday, we must campaign for publicly funded health systems both here and around the world. Read and share the article here [[link removed]].

In addition, we were excited to see Britain’s approach to achieving Universal Health Coverage debated in the House of Commons [[link removed]] with Shadow Development Minister Preet Kaur Gill calling on the government to stop undermining health systems around the world. To read more about the link between trade and health justice you can read our policy reports here [[link removed]].

With your donations, Health Poverty Action is standing in solidarity with communities in Somaliland to strengthen their health systems by supporting the Ambulance services as pictured above. Legal regulation of cannabis is on the horizon!

This month, politicians from across the political spectrum [[link removed]] came out in favour of cannabis legalisation and the British public [[link removed]] is showing their support too. We are calling on the UK government to legally regulate cannabis, so that we can protect and promote public health. Our research [[link removed]] shows that this could raise at least £1 billion in tax revenues that can help fund the NHS. This could fund 31,900 nurses or health visitors!

Become a health hero now! [[link removed]] News we've been following

We're always on the lookout for interesting news to share with you from around the world. We were pleased to see politicians and medics calling for an urgent overhaul of drug policy after new figures indicated Scotland’s drugs deaths are at their worst level since records began, with the highest reported rate in Europe [[link removed]]. However, we were saddened to see reports showing that Greenland's ice sheet is melting [[link removed]]so fast that it has caused global sea levels to rise 0.5mm in just one month.
