Friend,

The Iowa Senate just introduced a bill that would allow state-licensed professionals to deny services to Iowans for religious reasons -- in other words, LGBTQ rights are under attack.

For years, I've stood alongside the LGBTQ community -- and I'm proud of the progress the state of Iowa has made over the years. In 2009, Iowa was one of the first states in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage.

But if we want to live progressive values in this country, we have to keep moving forward -- not backward.

Friend, the Iowa GOP is trying to mop the floor this session with heinous legislation that would devastate our friends in the LGBTQ community. Tell them today to protect the LGBTQ and reverse the bill that could deny them services for religious reasons.

This bill is a license to discriminate -- a step in the wrong direction. Allowing someone to hide behind religion to discriminate is shameful. And I'm unafraid to say, as someone who lives their faith values, this is not the message of Christ. It's a message that promotes hate-mongering and it needs to end.

We can't let Republicans control the values of faith any longer. Our faith values are what make us who we are. My faith guides me to love our neighbor, not demean them.

That's why this campaign is fighting for justice for everyone. Join me and urge the Iowa GOP today to kill the bill that would harm the rights of my LGBTQ friends and their community.

No one should be denied health care, or any type of service, because of who they are.

Thanks,
Eddie Mauro
