No matter what we look like, how much we earn, or where we lay our heads down to sleep, we all need a safe place to call home.
But in a state with the fourth largest economy in the world - with more billionaires in California than are in most countries - we have more homeless people than the entire populations of the cities of Berkeley or Pasadena.
We have the resources to solve this problem. When we amend the California constitution to assert the legal right to housing, it obligates state and local governments to respect, protect and fulfill this right for its people on an equitable and non-discriminatory basis.

A right to housing is not just symbolic. The obligation to “respect and protect” the right to housing means the government must not interfere with our right to housing by passing harmful housing policies and must regulate the private market to ensure landlords and housing providers do not interfere with the human right to housing. This could mean stronger tenant protections and further regulation of corporate landlords like Blackstone.

No importa cómo nos veamos, cuánto ganamos o dónde ponemos la cabeza para dormir, todos necesitamos un lugar seguro al cual llamar hogar.
Pero en un estado con la cuarta economía más grande del mundo, con más multimillonarios en California que en la mayoría de los países, tenemos más personas sin hogar que la población total de las ciudades de Berkeley o Pasadena.
