Momentum: This past year has seen a major shift toward education freedom. Five states now have universal “education savings accounts,” others expanded their choice programs, and still more have bills pending.  

• So, how do conservatives build on these gains? Lindsey Burke, director of Heritage’s Center for Education Policy, and research fellow Jason Bedrick point out that a focus on values, not just test scores, is key. 
• “Empowering families to choose the learning environments that align with their values is not only the right thing to do—it’s also the most politically viable strategy moving forward,” they write.

Toxic: Social media platforms are now linked to depression, anxiety, and suicide among kids and teens. Big Tech companies know this—but they continue to refine their algorithms to push more addictive content to minors.  

• The bipartisan Kids Online Safety Act would hold Big Tech companies accountable for failing to protect minors, says Kara Frederick, director of the Center for Technology Policy.

Wrong: Green energy evangelists claim that oil, gas, and coal are only successful because they are heavily subsidized. But a study published by the International Monetary Fund  “proving” this claim is full of oil-tanker-sized holes. 

• “These fuels have made the world a better place … any contention otherwise is about as valuable as a solar panel at midnight,” writes senior research fellow Jack Spencer.
