Your insistence that Congress pass the debt-ceiling bill this week was decisive. Without your concern, your engagement, and—I’ll say it—your patriotism, our great nation, the economic engine of the world, would be facing a very different, very unsettled future. 
 
Washington is so divided and the political parties so unable, or unwilling, to recognize how misguided they are that we came within days of calamity. Had Congress not authorized payment of the debts that Congress itself had previously agreed to pay, every single American would have been affected. 
 
It should never again come to this. And so, as founding chairman of No Labels, I ask you to stay concerned, engaged and patriotic. When you call, they listen. When you write, they read. That’s how our system is meant to work. And this week, you made it work. 
 
Much credit also goes to the congressional Problem Solvers Caucus, our bipartisan group of House members committed to collaborating and compromising to solve our country’s biggest problems. They were first to come up with a framework for a debt-ceiling bill, and they worked tirelessly to bring both sides together. 
 
Those are all good things to keep in mind as we enter the 2024 campaign season. Until then, thank you again. And good luck to you and to our great country.
