Happy Pride, John —
As we celebrate Pride Month, it is crucial that we remember our history. Pride is not just a parade or a celebration — it is an act of resistance.
This month we are celebrating by uplifting the stories of LGBTQ+ activists, organizers, and icons, like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who were instrumental in the Stonewall Riots and went on to found STAR to address issues impacting sex workers, trans youth, the homeless, and the incarcerated. And Angie Xtravaganza, a Puerto Rican voguer who started a Latine ballroom house known as Xtravaganza which is still around today. As well as Renée Richards, a doctor and trans pioneer in tennis who played in the U.S. Open. And radical feminist, professor, philosopher, civil rights activist, and poet Audre Lorde whose powerful prose gave words to a movement.
This year, as we honor the icons who came before us, we do so with a renewed sense of urgency, as recent events have shaken our LGBTQ+ community and reminded us of the critical importance of our ongoing fight for equality, acceptance, and basic human rights.
Help us uplift the stories of LGBTQ+ icons who came before us by sharing their stories on social media.

Across the country, reactionary Republican lawmakers have introduced a record-breaking number of bills this year attacking the LGBTQ+ community, with trans youth being especially targeted.1 From banning access to gender affirming care to heavily regulating discussions around LGBTQ+ people in schools to banning drag shows — it has never been more important to stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ brothers, sisters, and non-binary siblings.
We cannot let hate go unchallenged or allow fear to silence us. We must unite in solidarity and take a stand against discrimination in all its forms.
Help us spread a message of love, acceptance, and equality and amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ icons who came before us.
