In this email, I'll be talking about gun violence. Please only read if you feel comfortable doing so. -- DE
John,
I wanted to reach out to you about an important issue that requires our immediate attention: gun violence in America. It is a problem plaguing our society, claiming far too many lives, and leaving a trail of heartbreak and devastation in its wake.
This weekend, we #WearOrange to honor the memory of Hadiya Pendleton — the 15-year-old girl who was shot and killed in 2013, just one week after performing at President Barack Obama's second inaugural parade.
We wear orange for the thousands of children killed yearly by gun violence.
But wearing orange is more than a symbol; it is a call to action.
Last year, I cosponsored Chairman Adam Schiff’s Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, which would hold the gun industry accountable for negligence and disregard for public safety and allow victims' families to have their day in court. This is not a new strategy for me as I made it a central theme of my mayoral campaign back in 1999.
I've constantly supported legislation to tackle the gun violence epidemic, and now, I'm demanding action. Will you stand with me today by adding your name next to mine to demand the House take up action on the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act?
By joining forces, we can make a difference and create a future free from the devastating impact of gun violence.
Thanks,
Dwight
