1) Officials who work for Governor Ron DeSantis's administration — not his campaign — have been sending text messages to Florida lobbyists soliciting political contributions for DeSantis's presidential bid.

2) DeSantis’s allies quietly changed Florida rules, conveniently allowing him to transfer money he raised for a state PAC to a federal super PAC supporting his presidential campaign.

3) It looks like DeSantis may have violated federal campaign finance laws when he set up that $80 million scheme.

John, we can’t get used to these kinds of abuses.

There are rules against moving massive sums of money around to influence elections, and it looks like Ron DeSantis broke them. That can’t be allowed to stand.

Fundraising from his official administration rather than the campaign is a breach of traditional norms that raises ethical and legal questions. And transferring funds from his state political committee to a federal super PAC violates not only the letter of federal campaign finance laws, but also the spirit of the law: money can’t be allowed to flow anonymously and unchecked into federal elections.

Beyond the campaign finance issues at play, these scandals show a pattern of using government power for political gain.
