John,
With the budget deal signed and a debt ceiling disaster narrowly averted, what is next on the wish list of House Republicans? Tax cuts for the rich and corporations.
We’re not kidding.
Even before the debt ceiling deal was announced, House Ways and Means Committee Chair, Jason Smith (R-MO), announced that he wanted a tax package introduced before his birthday on June 16.[1]
He’s looking for a birthday present not just for himself, but for his wealthy campaign contributors as well.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has already told us that making the expiring portions of the Trump tax scam permanent would add an additional $3.5 trillion to our national debt over 10 years.[2]
And, preliminary estimates from the CBO indicate that cuts to the IRS, included in the newly signed budget deal, will add an additional $19 billion to the deficit since the IRS will have fewer resources to crack down on wealthy and corporate tax cheats.[3]

[3] IRS Cuts to Add $19 Billion to Deficit, CBO finds
-- DEBORAH’S EMAIL --
John,
President Biden is signing a debt ceiling and budget bill that averts a potentially devastating default in exchange for damaging cuts and caps and more stringent requirements that will take food and income support away from people who need that help.
All along, Kevin McCarthy and the extremists’ intent was clear: Their goal was never really about reducing federal deficits. No -- what they want is to cut funding for human needs and to target vulnerable communities, and then to turn around and work to pass even more tax breaks for the rich and corporations.
Even before McCarthy struck a debt ceiling deal with the president, House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith (R-MO) announced his intent to introduce a tax package by June 16.[1] He wants to make the expiring portions of the Trump tax scam permanent, disproportionately benefiting the rich and corporations.
The Congressional Budget Office has indicated that making the entire Trump tax scam permanent will increase our federal debt by $3.5 TRILLION over the next decade.[2]
Fight back against right-wing attempts to cut taxes for the rich and corporations on the backs of vulnerable communities. With a tax package expected in less than two weeks, we must act quickly to stop the Republican-controlled House from making the entire Trump tax scam permanent.
While we were successful in limiting the damage done by the McCarthy debt ceiling deal, the bill still does harm to millions of people with low incomes, people with disabilities, children, and vulnerable communities. Caps on programs and services means that federal funding will not keep up with rising costs. And, the stringent reporting requirements will result in fewer people receiving critical cash aid through TANF while tens of thousands also lose access to food assistance via SNAP.
Immediately after passing caps and cuts on services for vulnerable communities, we will not allow Kevin McCarthy and his caucus to then pass a tax package that further pads the pockets of the rich and corporations.
Rush a donation today to fight back against a right-wing tax plan that makes the Trump tax cuts for the rich and corporations permanent.
