ANDREW IN THE NEWS Migrant Relocation Transparency Act sponsored by Garbarino " U.S. Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) recently led a contingent of fellow Republicans in introducing legislation that would institute reporting requirements for the federal resettlement, transportation, or relocation of undocumented migrants in the United States. 'This bill would require transparency and accountability for the federal relocation of migrants, improve public safety, and prevent the administration from continuing to hide their role in these relocations behind cloak and dagger tactics,' the congressman said. Rep. Garbarino sponsored the Migrant Relocation Transparency Act, H.R. 3693, to require advance consultation with state and local officials and monthly reports to Congress regarding the resettlement, transportation, and relocation of aliens in America, according to the text of the bill. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Holds Art Show For Congressional Art Competition Andrew recently held an art show for the local high school students who provided submissions for this year's Congressional Art Competition at the Artspace Patchogue Gallery. Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the House of Representatives. The winning artwork from each District will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol building. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Securing Passport For Maritime Student A constituent from Manorville contacted Andrew's office because he was in Texas set to ship out with the Maritime Academy when he realized his passport was expired and his new one was not going to be coming in time. Andrew's casework team was able to secure him an in person appointment with the Houston Passport Agency for Monday morning in time for him to ship out that evening. Had he not gotten this appointment he would have had to extend his schooling another year in order to complete graduation requirements. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need for the federal government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Votes To Prevent Default, Institute Record Spending Cuts This week, Andrew voted in favor of H.R. 3746, the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, which passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 314 - 117. Andrew explained his vote in a statement. "The Fiscal Responsibility Act cuts spending by $2.1 trillion over the next 6 years, returns non-defense discretionary spending to Fiscal Year 2022 levels, and rescinds millions of unobligated COVID funds, all to save taxpayer dollars and mandate a more measured and responsible approach to federal appropriations," he said. "The out of control spending we experienced over the last two years caused record inflation that has devastated Long Island families," Andrew continued. "True to its name, this bill intends to limit federal spending growth to 1% annually over the same 6 year period. In addition to stabilizing spending levels, this bill will also spur economic growth by getting Americans back to work and instituting permitting reforms so we can produce more energy here at home, lower energy costs, and better compete with China and other advisories. Perhaps most importantly, the Fiscal Responsibility Act allows us to fulfill our commitments, fund the government, and ensure essential government functions – like paying our troops and sending Social Security checks out on time –continue uninterrupted. This is a good government bill built through bipartisan compromise that is required of a divided government. I thank Speaker McCarthy for his diligence in demanding Democrats come to the negotiating table to reach a deal that restores the United States to a posture of fiscal responsibility for the benefit of all Americans.” Andrew Votes To Support Small Businesses This week Andrew voted to support our small businesses. H.R. 2792, the Small Entity Update Act, introduced by Andrew's Financial Services colleague Rep. Ann Wagner, would direct the SEC to assess regulatory costs of compliance for small and growing businesses, ensuring that regulations placed on these businesses are not overly burdensome. Small businesses have limited access to capital and in many cases cannot afford the numerous lawyers, regulatory, and compliance experts that larger organizations can. This bill would ensure small businesses can continue to afford the cost of business. Thanks for reading! Do you know someone who might like to receive these updates?
