We deserve to know that our elections are protected from unfair interference and influence. Tell the Senate to pass the SHIELD Act.
John,
We deserve to know that our elections are protected from unfair interference and influence. Protecting our elections should not be a partisan issue. As the cornerstone of our democracy, we should be confident in the value of our votes.
However, the Trump Administration has shown it has no intention of securing our elections – so it’s up to us to make sure that 2020 is a free and fair race.
It has been 110 days since the House passed the SHIELD Act, but Mitch McConnell is refusing to bring the bill for a vote. That’s why we’re asking you to sign our petition to demand that the Senate pass the SHIELD Act and protect our elections.
For the past four years, we’ve watched debates and hearings on foreign influence in the 2016 election. And in the wake of Trump’s impeachment trial which proved that he openly invited foreign interference in our elections, we are reminded just how vulnerable our electoral system can be.
The SHIELD Act would help to protect our electoral processes by:
Ensuring transparency
Creating a duty to report any attempts of foreign influence
Closing loopholes that allow foreign governments to spend money on US elections
Restricting foreign exchange of information
Stopping voter suppression by prohibiting the spread of false information
