So. Much. Drama.

Hello, True Texans!

We were given a gift!  The recent ineptitude of the State House has lots of voters ready to get active.  Catch them before they quit paying attention again!  Folks are mad over the waste of time, the lack of conservative priorities passing, and the whole Paxton witch hunt.  Capitalize on this.  Let them know that the best way to be heard is to have one combined voice in the loudest grassroots army in the state:  True Texas Project!  Working together to bring about change is exactly why we exist!

Here are a few links worth checking out on all the drama in my opinion:

  • A Time For Choosing In Texas - a brief commentary by Wallace Hall on the similarities between the witch hunt against him and the witch hunt against Paxton.  Those of you who have been around awhile will remember Hall speaking to our organization back when it was his turn to be the target.  What we allow will continue!
  • 4 Minutes - a video clip of Lt Gov Dan Patrick demolishing Speaker Matthew McDade Phelan. So fun!
  • Crony Establishment Will Veto Your Vote - how corporatists and Democrats work together to weaken Texas, as seen in the Paxton impeachment
  • Due Process Vs Rushed Impeachment - an explanation for those who want to know if Paxton is guilty or not and have been told this was a legal way to find out
  • Yes, Compression Is The Best Form Of Tax Relief - changing the subject off Paxton a bit, but still talking about the session...  This explains why the House plan for tax relief is actually better than the Senate plan -- though neither one of them give us the $33 billion of extra tax money they took from us.

Fran's Legislative Update

It's been crazy town in Austin recently!  It seems the House, the Lt Governor and the Governor are all at war with each other over property tax solutions.  The House has basically thumbed their noses at the Senate, saying "take it or leave it".  LG Patrick's response is "no way!".  It's a stand off.

One thing you can say about the 88th Session - it's never boring!

In the "Fran's Friday Message" I summarize wins and losses related to our TTP legislative priorities that we set at beginning of session.  You can read the complete Friday message here with detailed bill numbers and descriptions. [Note from Julie: it's a really good one -- you should read it if you haven't already!]

We did see some significant progress on the "protect children" front, but most of the other priorities were only given lip service if anything at all.  Gov. Abbott promises to call multiple special sessions, each addressing 1 or 2 topics, so maybe by the end of it all, we'll see more progress.  A girl can dream!

If the special sessions give opportunity for public involvement, we'll be back at it during the summer.  Stay tuned!

Denton & Collin Counties did a combined Happy Hour!

Check out Jackie Wakin's comments after that happy hour:

About last night…..we had our monthly True Texas Project (Denton & Collin) Happy Hour Social last night!!! It was one of my favorite ones so far! I would say we had about 50 people there! Everything was perfect about it: the location, the food, the weather, the music but the best part was the company, the camaraderie! We had a few people come to me and asked about TTP since a few of us had our TTP T-shirts on. It was truly a happy place. So many said “I needed this”! And this is what these socials are all about! Meet new people, laughter, relax, be with like-minded people and no politics!!!! As the Denton County Social events coordinator, I promise to continue finding fun and diverse venues for our monthly socials! Stay tuned for the next one……Save the Date: Friday June 23!!! It will be fun, I promise!!!

If you aren't joining in on the social activities in your area, you're missing out!

Don't Forget!

  • Bring used books to your monthly meetings to offer as prizes for trivia questions!
  • The Runoff Election is happening now!  Early voting continues today through Tuesday, and Election Day is Saturday! Find recommendations here.
  • The RGV and Longview Areas are asking for your input! You should have received a survey via email.  Make sure to turn yours in. Need the link? Reply to this email.
  • True Texas Project is now on LinkedIn!  We are only just getting ramped up, but we have plans to use this social media tool to reach people with a long list of how-to videos.  I'm told LinkedIn is favored by those who dislike Facebook, and people appreciate that it is less cluttered.  Go ahead and start following us, and we'll start working on making it worth your time.

This week at True Texas Project...

Our monthly meetings start up this week, and we have some incredible speakers coming!  People rave about our speakers, so don't miss out.
