The Fairbanks native scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the No. 3 Oregon
women's basketball team made history with a 74-56 victory over No. 4 UConn. The
Ducks handed UConn its first home loss since 2013 and most lopsided loss ever at
Gampel Pavilion, where the Huskies have gone 296-8 since the 1993-94 season. The
6-foot-4 senior produced more points in the paint than the entire UConn team. The
West Valley High grad has 10 double-doubles in 22 games this season.
The winner is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m.
on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM. View past winners here.

PLAAY 2020 starts this week! [[link removed]]

This year's PLAAY (Positive Leadership for Active Alaska Youth) initiative kicks
off Friday, Feb. 14th with the 5th annual PLAAY Summit and concludes on Feb. 20th
with a visit with the fastest swimmer on the planet!
The PLAAY Summit is an accredited conference featuring a panel of experts on youth
physical, emotional and mental health topics. A panel of Alaskan athletes including
Jalil Abdul-Bassit, DaJonee Hale, and Dom Meriweather will discuss the role of leadership

Using a killer kick, Kenai's Allie Ostrander came from behind down the stretch to
win the women's 3,000-meter run at the 113th Millrose Games in New York City.
The 23-year-old runner is beginning her second season as a professional and secured
her first victory on one of the biggest stages in track and field.

Bethany Carstens of Kenai is shaping up to become the best 3-point shooter in a
decade for Chicago State University women's basketball.
The freshman sharpshooter currently ranks No. 4 all-time in single-season 3-point
percentage (.418) and is approaching the top 10 for most 3-pointers made (46) in
a single season.

Anchorage's DeMarcus Hall-Scriven brought early energy that sparked Skagit Valley
College to another victory in the NWAC.
The freshman guard came off the bench to score seven of his team's 10 points in
a 10-2 run that pushed the lead to 19-6 and kickstarted an 86-74 win over Peninsula.

Wuthrich's wicked wrister helps No. 8 Boston skate by Vermont [[link removed]]

Anchorage's Emma Wuthrich fired a wicked wrister to score her third goal of the
season and lead No. 8 Boston University to a 4-2 win versus Vermont in Hockey East.
With her team nursing a 2-1 lead early in the third period, the sophomore won a
neutral-zone draw and then got the puck back a buried a wrist shot over the goaltender's
glove at the 7:27 mark.
Boston is 12-1 over the last two seasons when Wuthrich registers a point in a game.

The Spokane men's basketball team scored 10 points directly off steals by Anchorage's
Jaron Williams as his defensive prowess paid huge dividends in an 84-70 win over
Big Bend.
The 6-foot-4 freshman racked up a season-high eight steals in the game as he continues
to make a case for NWAC all-defensive team honors.
Williams, of East High fame, came off the bench to score 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting.

Griffin leans on all-around game to lead Canberra into semis [[link removed]]

Eagle River's Kelsey Griffin didn't have a great night offensively but found other
ways to dominate the game.
The Canberra Capitals forward grabbed 10 rebounds, dished seven assists and blocked
three shots to offset an off-night shooting the ball in a 73-71 win over the Adelaide
Lightning in Australia.
She finished with just seven points on 3-of-12 shooting.
Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, ranks second on her team and 10th in the WNBL at
15.6 points per game.

Bennett breaks Grand Canyon school record in 3,000-meter run [[link removed]]

Anchorage's Blake Bennett broke the Grand Canyon University school record in the
men's 3,000-meter run.
The sophomore distance runner placed fifth out of 37 participants at the Houston
Invitational in Texas with a time of 8:29.47.
Bennett, of ACS fame, crushed his previous PR of 8:51.41 set last year at the Western
Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
