Folks --
I’m writing to let you know that the House and the Senate have passed our bipartisan budget agreement. And, earlier today, I signed it into law.
This agreement is a
big win for our economy and for the American people.
It prevents a default that could have thrown us into an economic crisis, costing millions of jobs and devastating retirement accounts. Nothing would have been more irresponsible.
The agreement protects the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that’s rebuilding America, the CHIPS and Science Act that’s helping fuel a resurgence in American manufacturing, and the Inflation Reduction Act that’s boosting clean energy development and lowering prescription costs.
It also protects the historic economic progress we’ve made together -- including more than 13 million jobs created and historically low unemployment.
In this agreement, no one got everything they wanted. But the American people got what they needed.
We’re protecting important priorities including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, and our transformational investments in infrastructure and clean energy.
Our work is far from finished. But, this agreement is a critical step forward.
It’s a reminder of what’s possible when we act in the best interests of our country.
Bipartisanship is hard. Unity is hard. But we can never stop trying. Because -- no matter how tough our politics gets -- we need to see each other as fellow Americans, to join forces, and work together to keep the promise of America for everyone.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again: I have never been more optimistic about America’s future. There is nothing we can’t do when we work together.
Thank you for your support throughout this process,
Joe
