Friends,
After months of relentless and reckless threats by extreme MAGA Republicans to sabotage the economy, we finally have a debt ceiling deal that’s been signed into law.
It took countless hours of negotiations to get here while extreme MAGA Republicans tried to hold the US and global economies hostage in a desperate attempt to fulfill their own demands.
First, they issued a ransom list to avoid their manufactured catastrophe.
Next, they waited until the very last minute to come to the table and negotiate in a bipartisan fashion.
Then, Democrats rescued House Republicans from MAGA extremism in their own ranks and protected Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security, public safety, our veterans, and more.
Now, we’ve got to have a serious conversation about the debt ceiling and how we legislate in this country.
Let me be clear: what MAGA extremists did is not okay. There is never a good reason to extort the President and threaten the economy, and millions of Americans’ mortgages, retirement savings, and jobs.
The fact of the matter is we should do away with the notion of the debt ceiling entirely and focus on debating and legislating policies on their merits the way we were elected to.
