Each June, we celebrate our LGBTQI+ community and celebrate the progress reflected in people living authentic, fulfilling lives. I’m so proud to represent TX-07’s diverse and dynamic LGBTQI+ community—from its longtime heart in Houston’s Montrose area to every corner of the district.
As we celebrate Pride Month, we also recognize the relentless attacks on LGBTQI+ people in Texas and across the country. Nearly 500 anti-LGBTQI+ bills have been introduced across the country this year. And unfortunately, Texas lawmakers in Austin are leading the way, introducing more than 50 anti-LGBTQI+ bills this legislative session.
That does not reflect our values as Houstonians or Texans. And that is why it is important for me to be a part of the Congressional Equality Caucus: to bring the diverse and affirming voice of #TX07 to Washington. And this year, I am honored to have become a Vice Chair of the caucus. I will continue to do all I can to advance equality, combat discrimination, and improve opportunities and access for our LGBTQI+ community.
At the same time, I am committed to expanding those voices and that work. This year, I was proud to be asked to serve on the Board of the Equality PAC, the political arm of the Congressional Equality Caucus, whose mission is to support and elect openly LGBTQ individuals and strong LGBTQ allies to the United States Congress.
Each June we are reminded of how important it is to live authentically with pride. And it’s important to elect people who will work to make that possible for all people. I am also reminded each June that working together with people to make the world a better place is not only important, it is also fun. It is something to celebrate. And that is what we do this June. Happy Pride!
Together, we can do anything,
