The Impact of Generosity in 2019

In 2019, donors contributed $713,955.46 towards projects and ministry in Mozambique. This was over $90,000 more than donated in 2018 and extended the reach in community projects, education efforts, and securing safe water.

Cabo Delgado

The Mozambique Initiative has raised $70,000 for the construction of a UMC school in Cabo Delgado which will provide access to education in a remote part of the country. Currently, teachers instruct students in a building constructed of mud and thatch where cyclones in the spring of 2018 did much damage. Local leaders have secured new land, the government will fund teachers, and the students are hoping to find a more permanent structure in which to study. With a total budget of $110,000, a few more donors in 2020 can help make this dream a reality! Now is the time to consider if you could play a role in this capacity-building project. Safe Water

In 2019, 41 wells were completed through the Mozambique Initiative. According to the local communities, these wells brought safe, clean water to 124,140 people! The average cost for a well per-person in 2019 was $2.04. The MI structure continues to provide one of the most cost-efficient ways to make a difference in securing clean water. Changing a person's life for $2.04 means that almost everyone can make a difference. This past year, a teenager set aside spare money throughout the year and donated $245 in December—her individual effort provided clean water for 120 people! You can donate to provide safe water here.

Mobile Health Clinic

The Mozambique Initiative continues to labor to extend the reach of quality healthcare in Mozambique. A new vehicle for the Center of Hope will serve as a mobile clinic deployed to communities in need. A rural health clinic has also been funded in the community of Rovumo. Rovumo is a community of approximately 3,500 and has a new, growing United Methodist Church. The nearest medical clinic is nearly 25 miles away and many people are forced to walk. This health post will extend the reach of healthcare in Mozambique and support this vulnerable community. You can donate to this project here.
