I toured and had an interview with Univision! It was great to learn more about the network and discuss how Congress is tackling the border crisis and out-of-control government spending.

Lesko Statement on Debt Limit Vote in U.S. House

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on the debt limit deal. Although I appreciate the hard work put into negotiating a debt ceiling deal with the president, I could not in good conscience vote for the current version of the debt ceiling bill. I was concerned that the bill allows unlimited borrowing with no debt ceiling cap through January 1, 2025, that the IRS will still have $70.6 billion to hire IRS agents, and that able-bodied adults who are experiencing homelessness are now exempted from work, job training, or drug rehabilitation requirements to receive SNAP benefits. Instead of advancing a system that makes people reliant on government programs that were designed for temporary assistance, we need to help those experiencing homelessness prepare for work and find jobs so they can get off of the streets permanently.

GET THE FACTS: President Biden's Student Loan Debt Scheme

In August 2022, President Biden attempted to enact an unconstitutional student loan forgiveness plan by executive action. However, canceling student loans does not make the debt go away, it merely shifts the cost onto American taxpayers. When the student loan forgiveness plan was first announced, it was estimated to cost $400 billion, or roughly $2,500 per taxpayer. Outstanding federal student loan debt currently totals $1.7 trillion, and this student loan scheme forces the 87 percent of Americans who do not have student loans to pay for 13 percent of Americans who do. Recently, House Republicans passed Congressman Bob Good's (R-VA-05) H.J. Res. 45 to overturn President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan. This resolution will utilize a Congressional Review Act to rescind President Biden and the Department of Education's rule as well as put an end to the student loan repayment pause. I was also pleased to see that the U.S. Senate took up and passed this measure to stop President Biden's overreach and unconstitutional scheme. I will continue to work with my Congressional colleagues to prevent the Biden Administration's failed agenda from further burdening the American people.

Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted our office after unsuccessfully attempting to have her local U.S. Post Office replace an aging American flag on their property. Our office contacted the U.S. Postal Service, and inquired about having the flag replaced. As a result, this post office now has a brand new American flag flying outside.
