Happy Pride Month, John!
I’m so proud to celebrate Pride this month with my LGBTQIA+ neighbors, family, and friends. While Pride should be about joy, I want to take a moment to talk about the vicious attacks on our queer and trans siblings happening across the country.
Over 540 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills have been introduced in state legislatures this year, and it’s no accident. This is straight-up fascism, John. The GOP’s nationwide attack on LGBTQIA+ rights is strategic and coordinated, and it won’t stop unless we take action.
Remember: Pride is a revolution. This month, we must tap into the revolutionary spirit of Pride and fight this rising wave of fascism. Part of my commitment includes pushing Congress to pass the Equality Act so our LGBTQIA+ friends and family can have long-overdue federal protections.
With the Equality Act in place, LGBTQIA+ people would be federally protected against discrimination in health care, housing, employment, and more. It’s a critical piece of legislation to protect vulnerable community members — and it’s one way we can push against the GOP’s authoritarian attacks.
Pride is a beautiful celebration of our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, friends, and family — and it's also our time to send a loud message of solidarity and resistance. To those who want to see our communities crumble, we won’t be defeated. We will fight back together in unity and joy.
