[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy
I don't take this job for granted. I never have. And I never will.
I can’t remember if it was the first race for the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission or my initial election for State Representative, but very early in my political career - during my mid 20s - my mother sent me a gift. It was a small stone with an engraving that read:
“Real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determination.”
She was right. I’m an ordinary person. I’m not smarter than anyone else. I’m not more persuasive than other people. But what I do have is extraordinary determination and persistence. When something matters…when a cause is that important…I just choose to never give up.
As a progressive movement, this has to be our motto: never give up. The things we are fighting for - civil rights, ending gun violence, combating climate change - are too important for us to be passive, or for our advocacy to be casual.
Every one of us has a role to play — from our organizing to how we fund this effort. And that’s where I need your help today. The only way I can continue to give everything I have for these causes is to be reelected next year.
No matter how hard I work, the fact that I’m not a billionaire, able to fund my own campaign, doesn’t change. No matter how many hours I put in, I’m still reliant on you to empower me to continue this work.
So please, if you believe in our people-powered movement, I need you to donate today. Every donation is a way to say that you are in this fight and have my back for the fights ahead.

This refusal to give up is how I helped lead a 10 year fight to beat the gun lobby. Most pundits said it couldn’t be done — that the gun lobby was too big and too strong. I didn’t believe that. And together, we proved the pundits wrong.
But we’re not done. And so long as you are with me, then I know we’ll be ready for what’s ahead.
Every best wish,
Chris Murphy
