John — far-right Republican lawmakers are determined to end public education as we know it in North Carolina. Here are FIVE THINGS that you need to know about their plot:

1. GOP legislators are ignoring our teacher shortage crisis and refusing to invest in early childhood education, harming our youngest learners and choking the life out of the entire public education system.
2. They plan to ram their partisan culture-war issues into our kids’ classrooms. They’ll police what our students can learn and how our teachers can teach — and they’ll target LGBTQ+ students who are already vulnerable.
3. They’re overhauling the budget to decimate funding for public services including public schools, which means schools have to make cuts. From cutting gifted courses to ending art and music electives, schools are already having to think about where their resources can stretch.
4. Instead of prioritizing resources for education, Republicans want to cut taxes for the ultra-rich and corporations.
5. Meanwhile, they’re creating a voucher program to use public tax dollars to send millionaires’ kids to private and charter schools. They’re taking money out of the hands of the public school systems and students that need it most.
