Team – Last November, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in North Carolina barely won more than 50% of the vote, and Republicans and Democrats both won half of the state’s 14 congressional seats.
But despite these close margins statewide, Republicans still managed to secure veto-proof majorities in the state legislature, making it possible for the GOP to bypass the state’s Democratic governor and pass a sweeping abortion ban.

Because of partisan gerrymandering, GOP lawmakers can pass far-right bills like a 12-week abortion ban without having to be held accountable by voters. This is why our fight for fair maps is far from over, team.
We’re not powerless against Republican efforts to manipulate maps and undermine our elections. Thanks to supporters like you, the NDRC’s fair maps movement has made incredible progress since our founding in 2017 – in fact, we helped secure what the New York Times called “the fairest House map of the last 40 years.”
But the GOP is not going down without a fight. A.G. Holder made that clear when he said, “The good news is that maps across the country are the fairest they've been in decades because of our work. . . . The bad news is that a new wave of anti-democratic tactics has already begun.”
