It’s Pride Month, y’all! 🏳️🌈
Pride Month is about honoring the LGBTQ+ trail blazers who have bravely fought for our rights throughout history. It’s about celebrating the joy, authenticity, and freedom that every LGBTQ+ person deserves. It’s about recognizing how far we’ve come, and how far we have left to go. Don’t forget, Pride began as a protest.
This year, we’ve seen GOP extremists wage relentless attacks on LGBTQ+ folks across the country — breaking records for the sheer quantity of legislation introduced. This unprecedented wave of legislation challenges LGBTQ+ peoples’ basic right to exist, from banning gender-affirming care for trans youth, to criminalizing drag performances, to permitting the intentional deadnaming or misgendering of trans and nonbinary students.
We’re only halfway through the year, and GOP extremists have already introduced more anti-LGBTQ+ bills in state houses than in each of the previous five years. Take a look for yourself:

Year-to-Date Snapshot: 2023 Anti-LGBTQ+ State Legislative Activity
- Over 520 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in state legislatures, a record;
- Over 220 bills specifically target transgender and non-binary people, also a record; and
- A record 70 anti-LGBTQ laws have been enacted so far this year, including:
- Laws banning gender affirming care for transgender youth: 15
- Laws requiring or allowing misgendering of transgender students: 7
- Laws targeting drag performances: 2
- Laws creating a license to discriminate: 3
- Laws censoring school curriculum, including books: 4

The truth is: When we have the freedom to make our voices heard at the ballot box, we have more power to protect LGBTQ+ rights and stop anti-LGBTQ+ extremism. We can elect leaders who will use their voices to fight for the LGBTQ+ community, and we can unseat the extremists who aim to do the exact opposite.
