Hello, Friends —
On Wednesday night, the House of Representatives took one of the most consequential votes of the 118th Congress, passing the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 and raising the national debt ceiling. Nothing about this piece of legislation is fiscally responsible. In reality, the Biden-McCarthy debt limit deal is a major win for the Democrat party, as it papers over America’s problems with unknowable sums of debt and gaslights reckless inflation-inducing spending. Americans are already suffering through Bidenflation, and this bill guarantees that it's only going to get worse.
Last year, the American people gave Republicans the majority in the U.S House of Representatives because they wanted us to rein in the Democrat party's out-of-control spending for woke and weaponized agencies. Yet Speaker McCarthy and President Biden chose to go behind the backs of hard-working Americans and negotiate a deal that cements the historically high COVID-era spending levels as the baseline for future spending. This bad deal adds $4 trillion to the debt in less than two years, funds 87,000 new IRS agents, and ensures Democrats don’t have to deal with the political fallout of raising the debt ceiling prior to the 2024 election. I can't imagine a better deal for Democrats and a worse deal for our nation.
Even the purported policy "wins" are largely cosmetic budget gimmicks or waivable at Biden’s whims. It is disgraceful we have Establishment Republicans celebrating "work requirements" being traded for reforms that make the SNAP program more costly for taxpayers and more accessible to the homeless.
Only four Republicans remain in Congress who have never voted to raise the debt limit, and I’m proud to be among them. One of the principal mandates members of Congress have with their voters is to fight inflation. I refuse to be complicit in this bipartisan bankruptcy, and I will remain steadfast in my fight to put America First.
REP. GAETZ DESTROYS LEFTIST TRANSGENDER AGENDA ON MILITARY BASES
I'm proud to announce a huge victory for our military service members, their families, and the American taxpayer. The Pentagon issued a directive this week prohibiting drag shows from being hosted on any U.S. military installations or facilities days after I demanded answers from Pentagon leaders as to why drag shows were happening on bases. We find ourselves in a situation where taxpayer-funded drag queen shows have become increasingly prevalent on military installations. What's even worse is that these shows often are advertised as "kid friendly." I believe this is an all-out attack on children, and I won't stay silent. I will continue to ensure our military is the most well-trained and equipped fighting force in the world and doesn't turn into a "woke" army that indoctrinates our children with Leftist ideology.
REP. GAETZ: NEW DEBT DEAL IS A WIN FOR DEMOCRATS
On Wednesday, I joined "Rob Schmitt Tonight" on Newsmax to discuss how the Biden-McCarthy debt limit deal does not deliver on Republican demands for downward pressure on spending and actually gives Democrats a ginormous win.
The Biden-McCarthy debt limit deal in actuality is a bipartisan bankruptcy deal, making me wonder: When will Congress take its responsibilities to the American people seriously? The majority of members of Congress have shown their hand to their constituents by voting in support of a bill that only ramps up the Washington, D.C. spending machine. Though the fiscal hawk is an increasingly endangered species in Washington, we find ourselves hunted nonetheless. Regardless, I'm proud to have voted against legislation that does everything but help the American taxpayer.
REP. GATEZ: FBI SHOULD BE HELD IN CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS!
On Sunday, I joined "The Gorka Reality Check" on Newsmax to discuss how the FBI is refusing to turn over subpoenaed documents on the Biden Crime Family, Congress' potential plan to soon bring contempt charges against FBI Director Christopher Wray, and how the Department of Justice (DOJ) is ramping up its efforts to arrest more Americans to perpetuate their January 6th narrative.
The Biden administration is running Washington, D.C. like a mafia. Joe Biden's woke and weaponized federal agencies believe they can make decisions for the American people with no consequences, regardless of what members of Congress have to say. The House of Representatives has the power of the purse and the power of subpoena. It's now time for the House to use our power to hold Director Wray in contempt of Congress.

IMPORTANT PASSPORT ANNOUNCEMENT
Earlier this week, my team attended a Department of State (DoS) Passport Briefing. The DoS has been experiencing record weekly volume (500,000 applications/week) since April. Given the influx of applications, the processing times have not changed since March. Please see the following expected processing times immediately below:
Routine Passport Service: 10-13 weeks
Expedited Passport Service: 7-9 weeks
The Department of State advises constituents that have a passport that is expired or is expiring within one year to renew their passports even if they do not have travel planned. My team will continue to fervently work to provide Northwest Floridians with a pleasant and timely passport experience. If you need assistance with acquiring a passport, please contact Nate Oliphant at [email protected] or call my District Office at 850.479.1183.
IMPORTANT HURRICANE SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT
I encourage all Northwest Floridians to prepare for the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which started June 1st. After assessing damage done from hurricanes in the past few years, I believe it's crucial to have at least 7 days of supplies on hand. These supplies include food, water, medicine, batteries, etc. To help with purchasing these supplies, do not forget to take advantage of the Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, which began May 27th and ends June 9th.
Here are some additional tips to safely prepare for potential emergencies and keep you and your loved ones safe:
Prepare a kit. Ensure you and your family have a disaster kit ready to go in case of an emergency. For more information on items to include in a kit, visit https://www.ready.gov/hurricanes
Get to know your surroundings. Know the elevation of your house and property. Hurricanes often bring storm surge, which is considered the greatest threat to property and life during any tropical storm. Know your communities’ evacuation routes and how you would evacuate to higher ground. For more information on potential storm surge areas visit https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/surge/
Consistently check the weather. The Coast Guard's mobile app for boating safety is a tool to check marine weather from your phone. With the mobile app, you can check the weather at nearby NOAA buoys, which provide wind speed and direction along with wave height. Checking weather any time you plan to get underway and throughout your time on the water is highly recommended.
Secure your boats. Review your hurricane plan with your local marina to ensure you have a plan to both bring your boat in and strap it down ashore or otherwise ensure it is properly equipped to ride out the storm at the marina.
Listen to local officials. When it comes to hurricane response and preparedness, the most important link in the chain is you: prepare your boat for the season, have a hurricane mooring plan, and monitor channel 16 on your VHF radio when on the water. Prior to planning a trip, keep an eye on the weather, port conditions, and other hurricane warnings.

Rep Gaetz gets Pride Month ‘family friendly’ drag show at Nevada Air Force base canceled
"'On March 29, 2023, during the House Armed Services Committee hearing on the ‘FY24 Defense Budget Request,’ I questioned you about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within the Department of Defense (DoD). I find it completely unacceptable that DoD is using taxpayer dollars to fund DEI programs that are divisive in nature. DoD resources should be used for mission-essential operations, not diverted toward initiatives that create cultural fissures within our service ranks,' Gaetz wrote in the letter dated May 23."

Connect to Congress: Rep. Matt Gaetz speaks on debt ceiling
"'I'm also concerned that there is no cap on the amount of debt that can be accrued during this two year period of time,' Rep. Gaetz said. 'The House Bill that previously passed allowed for $1.5 trillion increase in the debt limit or date certain. Here there is just an overall suspension of the debt limit and the reason that concerns me is with the Biden administration, we've seen them take unilateral action like on the student loan issue for example that financially burdens the U.S. Treasury without even the vote of the Congress.'"

Rep. Gaetz-Hosted Newsmax Show Friday Beats CNN
"Gaetz was guest host for Newsmax's "Greg Kelly Reports" on Friday night, May 26, 10-11 p.m. EDT and beat CNN's "The Whole Story With Anderson Cooper" in that time slot in total viewers 282,000 to 249,000, according to the latest Nielsen ratings data."

Matt Gaetz Champions the Put Zombie Donors to Rest Act
"'Through the diligent efforts of citizen journalists, O’Keefe Media Group has uncovered potentially millions of dollars in campaign donation fraud. Unidentified entities or individuals are using the identities of American citizens to perpetrate fraudulent campaign contributions. Termed as "zombie donors," these fraudulent transactions exploit payment methods that possess scant or negligible identity authentication mechanisms. The "Put Zombie Donors to Rest Act" aims to amend the Internal Revenue Code and mandates the inclusion of both a credit verification value (CVV) and a billing address as mandatory requirements for confirming the donor’s true identity, cross-referencing it with the corresponding address or banking information,' Gaetz said."
