It was another great week serving the people of California's 45th District. I was in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday for votes, and I also got to spend a lot of time with my constituents right here in Southern California. From our incredible local traditions to the amazing veterans in our community, we are truly blessed.

Honoring the Fallen

It's been a busy week in Washington, D.C., but I started out my week spending Memorial Day with Southern Californians to commemorate those who have given their lives in service to our nation. I started the day serving pancakes to VFW members in Buena Park, then joined elected officials and community members in La Palma and Fountain Valley for memorial services. I am so thankful for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

AAPI of Distinction

From business leaders and educators to healthcare professionals and community service providers, the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Southern California is as remarkable and impactful as it is diverse. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and talented friends and neighbors in our area.

To celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, my office asked for your help to honor some of these incredible individuals as distinguished citizens with our 2023 AAPI of Distinction.

This year's honorees represent the very best of our district, and I'm proud to recognize them for their contributions to our community.

Dr. Clayton Chau stepped up to serve Orange County in the most difficult circumstances.

I want to thank him for his service and wish him the best in his future endeavors.

Connecting With Our Heroes

It was an honor to visit with Navy sailors, Marines, and local veterans during Los Angeles Fleet Week in Brea! Our service members deserve our honor and respect for the sacrifices they make to keep our country safe and free!

Kicking Off the Congressional App Challenge

Pre-registration for the 2023 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is now open! The CAC is a great way for middle and high school students from across the country to explore and improve their computer-based skills by creating original apps.

This competition encourages computer science and innovation skills and offers an opportunity for students to explore potential careers in the STEM field. The competition is hosted by the Congressional Internet Caucus.

Each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and will be featured on the House of Representatives website. Winning students are also invited to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C.
