NPP CEO, Kadida Kenner, welcomes our two newest staffers, Vivienne Sinagra and Michael Cogbill. Vivienne joins NPP as the Director of Campaigns & Engagement while Michael will be filling the role of Regional Organizing Director in Philadelphia.
Vivienne -- a lifelong Pennsylvanian -- believes that the only moral democracy is one that actively fights for equal treatment under the law, the enfranchisement of all residents, and the protection of vulnerable populations from violence. Before joining NPP, she was the Deputy Director of Campaigns for the PA Budget and Policy Center and We The People PA, focusing on areas such as raising the minimum wage as well as accountability from our elected officials and candidates. She is unapologetically pro-LGBTQ and serves as treasurer for the board of Trans Formations Project, an organization dedicated to tracking and educating about the anti-trans legislative crisis sweeping the United States.
Michael previously served as the regional voter protection director for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party after running for U.S Congress in 2022. Michael’s additional experience includes working as an organizer and acting political director for the Philly AFL-CIO, a state coordinator for the NAACP and a community organizer for CeasefirePA. Michael also formerly served as the PAC chair for the Pennsylvania NAACP and is a proud member of the Philadelphia Branch NAACP. He looks forward to expanding NPP's reach in the greater Philadelphia area.

Pa. is one of 18 states with an all-white state Supreme Court. This must change. (The Philadelphia Inquirer)
“Today, Pennsylvania is one of 18 states with an all-white state Supreme Court, according to a new analysis from the Brennan Center for Justice. Nationwide, people of color account for around 40% of the population, but justices of color make up just 20% of state Supreme Court seats. You don’t need a crystal ball to understand why this is such a concerning problem."

Should Pa. require voter ID? Research agency divided on best ways to implement it (WITF) "Patrick Christmas, chief policy officer with government watchdog group the Committee of Seventy, said he could support the requirement if the recommendations acknowledged widespread voter fraud is not a problem – and if no voters were disenfranchised." Here’s how PA’s congressional delegation voted on the debt ceiling deal
(City & State) "The bill was passed in bipartisan fashion a little before 9:30 p.m. with a 314-117 vote. Most of Pennsylvania’s congressional representatives voted for the debt agreement, but two lawmakers from opposing parties voted against it."
Minnesota becomes 23rd state to legalize recreational marijuana (CNN)
“What we know right now is prohibition does not work. We’ve criminalized a lot of folks. We’re going to start the expungement process on those records. We have a situation where buying cannabis on the streets is dangerous,” Walz said at a signing ceremony Tuesday, adding that adults should be able to make their own decisions “around these types of choices.”
