I wish I were writing to you about almost anything else, John, but we've got to talk about Ron DeSantis.

The Florida governor, who recently threw his hat in the ring for the Republican presidential nomination, has a dangerous and disturbing political record. His tenure as governor has been an assault on our most basic rights, including (but not limited to!) education, voting, abortion, and, for LGBTQ+ people, simply existing.

Let's show DeSantis that the EMILYs List community is ready to fight back. Donate now to help elect Democratic pro-choice women ready to beat extremists like him everywhere.

Ron DeSantis banned critical race theory, restricted discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity, and banned transgender girls and women from sports in Florida's public schools.

He proposed restrictions on mail-in voting and endorsed measures that make it more difficult to launch ballot initiatives.

He signed a bill into law, under the cover of night, that severely restricts abortion access. A few weeks later, he signed bills banning gender-affirming care for minors, targeting drag shows, and forcing Floridians to use bathrooms associated with the sex they were assigned at birth.

This brand of right-wing extremism isn't unique to DeSantis or to Florida -- sadly and terrifyingly, I'm watching it creep slowly into my home state of North Carolina as we speak. But Ron DeSantis seems determined to position himself as the figurehead of an increasingly oppressive and bigoted Republican Party, and that should alarm us all.

So, how do we fight back? We elect Democratic pro-choice women in Florida, North Carolina, and every other state attempting to roll back our rights. We support candidates who will protect abortion access, defend voting rights, stand up for LGBTQ+ citizens, and speak out against dangerous political leaders.
