East Palestine Update -- 6/2/23

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)? The following are updates from the State of Ohio regarding remediation work at the site of the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.

*New First Responder Training Resource*

Firefighters, EMS workers, and other first responders now have an online resource that gives them instant access to information on hazardous material training available throughout the state.

The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal, in partnership with the Bureau of Workers? Compensation, PUCO, and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency,? developed a new website that compiles all known first responder training in Ohio.

This resource was developed in response to the East Palestine train derailment to ensure a singular depository for hazmat courses that train firefighters in responding to train derailments and other emergencies. The trainings are free to first responders through state agencies and industry partners. Some coursework is online.

The public water system continues to meet all state and federal standards for safe drinking water. Sentinel and monitoring well sampling also show no indication that chemicals associated with the derailment are moving toward the East Palestine well field.

*Private Well Testing*

The Ohio Department of Health, working with the Columbiana County Health District, has received verified laboratory results from 14 additional samples from private water systems since last Friday.
