On Monday June 5, City Council will vote on whether to fund Cop City with $30 million of taxpayer dollars! Atlanta DSA is mobilizing our members to pack City Hall on June 5th alongside the scores of other organizations that will be in attendance. We call on City Council to vote NO on Cop City and fund Atlanta's working-class communities instead!

Schedule:
11am - Public Comment Signup Opens
1pm - City Council Meeting Starts, Public Comment Signup Ends
2pm - Public Comment Starts

We're staying until the meeting's over!

📋 Stop Cop City Canvassing 📋

Join Atlanta DSA this Sunday at noon as we campaign to pressure the City of Atlanta to vote NO on Cop City and invest the $31+ million in community not cops! We're reaching out to Atlanta residents who live near the proposed Cop City construction site in order to discuss how they feel about the project, and to inform them about the upcoming City Council vote planned for June 5th.

We're meeting up in the park behind Frederick Wilson Benteen Elementary School. Make sure to download the free MiniVAN canvassing app ahead of time. No experience needed. This event will happen rain or shine, so please bring an umbrella and raincoat in case of rain.

✊ DSA Stands with Solidarity Fund Organizers ✊

This past Wednesday, three organizers with the Atlanta Solidarity Fund were arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on charges of “money laundering” and “charity fraud” in an apparent effort to develop a RICO-like case against the Stop Cop City protest movement. These charges against civil rights organizers represent yet another scare tactic and unwarranted escalation by the same elite forces conspiring to build Cop City. Atlanta DSA stands with the defendents and calls for the immediate release of the arrested organizers with all charges dropped.

📕 Book Club 📕

Atlanta DSA's Book Club explores a range of topics in socialist theory. We discuss big picture ideas about history, economics, and politics. Our next meeting is Thursday June 15th at 7PM, where we're reading Prisoners of the American Dream by Mike Davis. We encourage everyone to read ahead of time, but all are welcome to join the discussion!

⚡Donate to Support Strike Solidarity! ⚡

Militant labor actions are spreading like wildfire! With WGA on strike and the Teamsters preparing for a potential nationwide strike in August, we need all hands on deck to stand with workers in these fights!

ATL DSA is fundraising for food, drinks, and supplies for the picket line! DONATE NOW to our labor solidarity fund to help purchase snacks, drinks, and other materials for our labor solidarity work.

Plus, commit to join Atlanta-based WGA workers on the picket line and support their strike efforts if and when they plan actions in Atlanta by signing on here!

If you or anyone you know is a WGA member who'd like to get involved, please reach out to our labor committee at [email protected]. Plus, if you or anyone you know works in the film industry, you can submit tips on filming locations to [email protected]!

🎨 ATLDSA T-Shirt Contest 🎨

Your art deserves to be seen by more people, and should serve a purpose. Does that sound like you? Make a submission to the Atlanta DSA T-Shirt contest and make it a reality! Help Atlanta organizers rep justice, democratic socialism, and good trouble wherever we go. Submissions can be submitted at here and are due by June 15th. If you have questions, get in touch!

Note: Designs submitted to the Atlanta DSA T-Shirt Contest become the property of Atlanta DSA if selected as a winning submission. The winning designs will be used, printed, and distributed on clothing by Atlanta DSA, and only Atlanta DSA.

The contest will run from June 1st thru July 15th, and final winners will be chosen on July 22nd by the General Meeting.

📝 Fill Out the 2023 Labor Survey 📝

Labor Survey promo image

At the 2022 Atlanta DSA Chapter Convention, members decided to prioritize our Chapter's labor work. We are building the labor movement by showing up for workers on the picket line, building relationships with rank-and-file union members, and helping our own members organize their workplaces.

But to do this, we need your help! Fill out our 2023 Labor Survey to tell us about yourself, your workplace, and the ways you'd like to help get involved in our work.
