But according to reports released this year by Open Secrets—a nonprofit
that tracks campaign finance and data—federal lobbying spending reached
$4.1 billion in 2022, and business interests spent $3.5 billion in
political contributions during the same cycle.

Billionaire CEOs and the most powerful corporations write these hefty
checks to political candidates, on both sides, for a reason: to gain
outsized power in our political system.

For Katie, corporate PAC and federal lobbyist contributions are a hard
no. Instead, we rely on grassroots contributions to power our campaign—our
average contribution is around $30, and we’re proud of that.

But in what’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive and expensive
primary races in 2024, we still need to raise serious resources to run ads
and reach voters. Katie is only able to compete because of supporters like
