They said there was no way a Democrat could defeat an incumbent Republican in a rural district that Trump won by 27 points. We started with no name recognition, didn’t have the backing of the D.C. elite, and refused to accept donations from corporate PACs and lobbyists. We believed -- and still do -- that our power should come from the people. Our campaign is all about getting out directly to the people, hitting the pavement, and earning trust and support one conversation at a time.
