Renew America’s Nonprofits Grants
I am always looking for opportunities to support our wonderful nonprofit organizations in Berks and Chester Counties and federal grants can be a great way to do that. Last week, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced $45 million in funding to improve energy efficiency in buildings owned and operated by nonprofit organizations. This will allow nonprofits to reduce energy or fuel use in their buildings. The program will award 5-15 grants to larger nonprofits who will then disperse it to smaller organizations and provide technical assistance and support as needed.
This grant program was authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which was signed into law in 2021. All 501(c)(3) nonprofits in the U.S. are eligible for this grant, which is designed to reduce energy costs, reduce emissions, and leave more money for nonprofits to serve their communities.
Nonprofits interested in applying can do so here; letters of intent are due by June 29 at 5 p.m., and full application submissions are due by August 3 at 5 p.m. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office here if you have any questions or need assistance with the application process. Additionally, the DOE has two informational webinars on these grants, register for the June 6 session here, or the June 8 session here. The DOE also has office hours on the program, register for the June 22 session here, and the July 13 session here.
Bipartisan good news from Washington
Last week, I voted for H.R.1669, the VET-TEC Authorization Act of 2023. This bill was introduced by Representative Juan Ciscomani, a Republican from Arizona, and requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to permanently implement technology education programs for veterans. This bill passed in an overwhelmingly bipartisan manner with only nine members voting against it. I'm always proud to support bipartisan legislation with my colleagues from across the aisle, but especially when that bill supports our veterans.
Constituent Success Story
Charles, a West Chester resident, reached out to our office for help with USPS. Here’s what he said after working with our office:
“I had 20 bill payments that I mailed that were lost or stolen. The issue seemed to be with the West Chester Post Office. Although it took almost a year, after contacting your office, I finally did receive a letter from the USPS that I could send to each vendor to let them know that a late and missing payment was not my fault.” -Charles, West Chester.
As always, please contact my office if you need assistance.
Be well and be kind to one another.
Chrissy Houlahan
U.S. Member of Congress
