Last month, we told you about some of the most dangerous places to be a mother around the world and we were humbled by the response.

We told you about Ifrah — who was on the brink of starvation before she fled her home amidst a record breaking drought in Somalia. And Maryna, who spent the first weeks with her newborn taking cover in a cold basement while Ukraine was under siege. We shared Busenya’s story, who fled her home in Türkiye while heavily pregnant after devastating earthquakes decimated the city.

And we shared many stories from Sudan — where needs are soaring after a violent conflict displaced millions, leaving women and girls especially at risk.

But thanks to supporters like you, UNFPA is scaling up our response to deliver lifesaving care and resources to women and girls in these regions and beyond. We hit and exceeded our May fundraising goal, which has a tangible, lifesaving impact for women and girls.

Your support delivered more than 570 Dignity Kits this week alone — providing essential menstrual care so that women and girls can manage their periods with dignity in even the most dangerous, isolated, and complex crises.

We are providing violence prevention services and support for survivors of violence, sexual exploitation, and abuse in war torn regions like Sudan. Midwives are being trained to help ensure safe childbirths in even the hardest to reach areas.

Make no mistake — there’s still work to be done to meet the needs of every woman and girl who is living through war, famine, and humanitarian crises.
