Dear Neighbors,
I returned to Washington this week to support the Bipartisan Budget Agreement because it prevents the United States from defaulting on our debt. A default would trigger a devastating economic crisis, drive up costs for American families, and deeply undermine the economic progress we’ve made.
The bill shields funding for essential education, health care, and housing programs from the harmful cuts right-wing Republicans passed earlier this year. This agreement also fully funds medical care for veterans and protects 40 million borrowers in President Biden’s student debt relief plan.
New Tobacco Research Center Coming to Rutgers
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced funding to support the Rutgers Center of Excellence in Rapid Surveillance in Tobacco. This announcement is great news and will help us respond quickly to new public health threats in an evolving tobacco market.
We know Big Tobacco is always looking for the next new thing to get people hooked on their products, particularly young people, and this new center will help us stay ahead of the curve with cutting-edge research and data trend analysis. I look forward to the important work they will be doing for years to come to help inform tobacco regulation and future policies.
Happy Pride!
I want to wish a happy Pride Month to the LGBTQI+ community in my district and to everyone across the country. Now more than ever we must stand together and fight for equality. Everyone deserves to live free of fear regardless of who they love or their gender identity. I’ll continue to support federal legislation that promotes equality for everyone.
