Submit Your Intentions, June 9 Solemn Pontifical High
Mass
Dear Friend,
Last week, I mentioned that on June
9, Cardinal Burke will celebrate a very special Pontifical High Mass,
at 11:00 AM Central Time from the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in
La Crosse, Wisconsin. All are invited to make a pilgrimage to the
Shrine to assist at this Solemn High Mass.
The Shrine is a spiritual
destination, with many beautiful chapels, statues, gardens, and
devotional areas for visitors and pilgrims from all over the
world.
For those who will be viewing on a
computer or smartphone, a link will be sent the day
before.
What intentions will you be
submitting, which will be included in the full ceremonial, Pontifical
High Mass, offered by His Eminence Raymond Cardinal Burke?
The June 9 Pontifical High Mass is
the older, traditional, Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite that has
been celebrated for centuries.
Here are some interesting
facts:
~ Only a Bishop, Archbishop,
Cardinal or Pope can celebrate a Pontifical High Mass.
~ Cardinal Burke will process in
the sanctuary wearing a surplice and his religious clothing as a
Cardinal, not yet fully vested for Holy Mass. A Cardinal's red skull
cap will be worn and not a bishop's mitre.
~ Vesting will take place during
the Holy Mass.
~ His Eminence’s hands will be
ceremonially washed by four clerics. Gloves will cover his
hands.
~ His Eminence will be wearing
liturgical pontifical sandals on his feet, as well as liturgical
stockings, also known as buskins.
~ When Cardinal Burke will be
sitting and preaching, he will be on a chair called a “faldstool”
which will be placed in the middle of the sanctuary.
~ A Master of Ceremonies, clerics,
deacons, subdeacons and altar boys will be present.
~ Everything will be
sung.
If you have never assisted at a
Pontifical High Mass, please mark your calendar to either attend in
person or view online, on June 9 at 11:00 AM Central Time. Submit
your intentions for His Eminence to remember in this High
Mass:
Yours in the Sacred Heart of Jesus
and the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
